Amateurs and or professors of Artificial Intelligence/Deep Learning Research reasonably need mathematics in their work!

Imagine “some_human” as somebody who seeks to construct an idea and contribute to the field of Ai.

  1. To put it simply, some_human has written down some concepts in the form of some text and diagrams, and without any math; but that body of text/diagram sequence could be impossible to verify, without any associated mathematical description.
  2. In contrast, let us imagine an optimal/mature example of what a good scientific paper looks like: i.e. an Artificial General Intelligence paper, such as Eray Ozkural’s 2015 kurzweil agi awarded paper… In it we see both text descriptions and math related to the topic of AGI. Each segment can be seen as some lego blocks with various shapes.
Nitpick: Actual scientific research is more like an assortment of partial lego blocks, as science prominently concerns models of our world, rather than exact blocks seen in the image above

3. In Eray Ozkural’s case, (or any in properly written scientific article/work/paper), the included math reasonably defines each segment giving each a “shape”, and more math is there in other segments to assemble prior shapes/segments; this way we can seek to analyze compatibility between shapes/segments as we build our theories/concepts.

4. In contrast, in some_human’s case, the text bodies/diagrams are shapeless without math, so there is reasonably no real way to verify how things fit together, i.e. there are essentially no things/shapes to assemble.

No math?

If some scientists/potential collaborators want to reproduce some_human’s “theory”, how will they reproduce it?

How could scientists begin to seek to create an experiment in code/hardware etc, if some_human’s theory isn’t adequately codified in one of the key languages of the scientists, namely mathematics?

One should reasonably seek to codify one’s ideas in the language of mathematics, without permitting years to pass on without attempt.

Take care and regards,
