No, BLOOM is reasonably not the most important Ai model of the decade
…and no, Gato is not just an old iteration, Gato is the world’s 1st known single multi-modality system, doing 600+ tasks ranging from image captioning, to real world robot hand control
A garbage article (though not without its good points) recently claimed BLOOM, apparently a LLM, was the most important Ai model of the decade.
⚫ BLOOM seems to be a unimodal system, working only on language thus far, while Gato works on images, text, proprioception, etc.
Gato is the world’s 1st known single multi-modality system, doing 600+ tasks ranging from image captioning, to real world robot hand control.
⚫ The article could have highlighted the value of open source, without belittling or misrepresenting the importance of Gato, the first known actual single model that does 600+ tasks.
Disappointing at best, the author could have highlighted the importance of open sourcing such a unimodal llm (BLOOM), without minimizing or misrepresenting the closed source multi-modaility/single generalist agent/ai model, Gato.
